Accra, Ghana’s Capital City

The city of Accra has been Ghana’s capital since 1877 and contains fine public buildings reflecting its transition from a 19th century suburb to the modern city it is today. The city offers wide range of African and international restaurants, bars, clubs and casinos.

Labadi beach, a few minutes drive from central Accra, offers a number of shady outdoor bars serving food. Quiet and relaxing for most of the week, the beach comes alive for a beach party on Thursday nights and Sunday afternoons with live bands and DJ’s playing Reggae and high-life music accompanied by a variety of dancers and performers.

Within Accra the choice of attractions varies from forts, museums, cultural centres and theatre, to colourful markets and colonial era shops and houses. The fishing port of Jamestown complete with fort and whitewashed 30m lighthouse is a delight to visit in early to mid morning after the fisherman come in.

For exercise and sport you can choose between the golf courses in Accra and nearby Tema, play tennis at some of our hotels, go sea fishing and enjoy other watersports or experience horse riding.

Within easy reach of Accra are the Aburi botanical gardens established by the British in 1890. Set within the Akwapim hills, 30km from the city, the gardens offer a bewildering variety of indigenous flora and fauna, as well as fabulous views of the surrounding countryside.
